This September, We Celebrate Recovery

This September, communities from across Ontario, Canada, and the world, come together to celebrate the many pathways to recovery, reduce stigma, and foster hope for overcoming addiction.

This year is the 11th annual celebration of recovery in Ontario, with the first recovery awareness campaign held in October 2016. Since then, the movement has gained momentum, with over 15 communities in Ontario participating.

Recovery Month spreads the message that with the right services and supports, recovery from addiction is possible, and calls for addiction to be treated and funded the same way as other illnesses.

Recovery month is celebrated in many different ways, including events such as Recovery Breakfasts, rallies, social media awareness, and more. A key component of recovery month involves individuals sharing their personal stories about their recovery, and the positive impact it has had on their families, communities and workplaces.

SELHIN Seeks Feedback to Guide Older Adult Strategy

The South East LHIN is seeking feedback to help inform a strategy being developed to address
the needs of older adults in the South East region through a survey being offered on the LHIN’s
website
until the end of April. Feedback is invited from seniors, caregivers, Health Service
Providers, and any other community members involved in the delivery of care or promotion of health
for seniors. Findings of this survey will support the development of the LHIN’s Older Adult
Strategy (the Strategy) by validating themes that have emerged through the work of expert and
reference panels as part of the planning phase of this strategy.

The Strategy will ensure that the resources currently available are being used as appropriately and
efficiently as possible for the older adult population. In addition, it will ensure that any new
resources are directed at the services and supports that will best serve this population and their
caregivers.

A key component of the Integrated Health Service Plan 4, the Strategy will be broad, setting
direction of the LHIN in addressing the need to enhance healthcare services and outcomes for older
adults in the south east region. An implementation strategy will follow with a focus on related
opportunities once they have been established and prioritized.

While the strategy development draws on the results of previous LHIN engagement, it was determined
that ongoing engagement would help inform the development process. To inform the development of the
Strategy, a reference panel comprised of system stakeholders - including patients and caregivers,
as well as an expert panel - composed of experts in the field
of senior’s health have been working with the LHIN.
In is anticipated that the Strategy will be presented to the LHIN Board in June 2016 for approval.

To learn more about the Older Adult Strategy, or participate in the stakeholder survey before the
end of April, visit www.southeastlhin.on.ca
